    What befuddles me?

The idea of Hell befuddles me. If God's love is revealed more and more in me, and I become more Christ-like as I get to know Christ, and I would never send someone to Hell, then I'm supposed to believe that God would send someone to Hell.

Usually arguments justifying Hell start off with God not being able to be around sin or tolerate it. Or not being able to show mercy without justice. Okay, really, all these arguments are based on God's inability to do something. C'mon. He's God. He can do anything. I wish Christians would begin to address these issues adequately.

The idea of inerrancy befuddles me. Christians continue to ascribe historical and scientific accuracy to the Bible when it was written in an era that didn't really value accurate facts. Humans became obssessed with accuracy after the Enlightenment. We constantly are interpretting the Bible with a post-enlightenment mindset.

There are many other things that befuddle me.
    • God doesnt send anyone to hell. people decide not to go with God, and end up in hell. i dont get why that is such a tough concept

we have freewill. if a guy is across the street yellnig "GEt over Here! , get in the house!" and we ignore him, and stay outside, there you have it.

no one really knows for sure if God leaves people in Hell forever, or what.
one of my favorite parables to remind folks of is the workers in the field. whenever you are called, if you show up, you get the same reward. there's no telling if God doesnt make you one last offer, and wouldn't it be just like God to have all us people who follow Him all our lives have to tolerate the fact that even low lifes like Hitler might be forgiven at some point.

      >>>an era that didn't really value accurate facts<<<

by your own use of the word "really" you devalue the accusation, and although there have been strange philosphies floating around the earth at ALL times (branch davidian, or neo nazi anyone?)
just not sure what you mean by accurate facts. that the miracles were exaggerated? well, when you believe in Jesus, you begin to understaand that He really could do ANYTHING, and still does.
anyway= not exactly sure what your definition of enlightenment is here,
or what there really is to "interpret"
i think that's the problem, really. all this interpretation instead of just reading.
what are the errors you refer to?
      • Brock, if you really want ot get into it, i would suggest asking some Jewish people about shabat (sp?), it's a dinner on friday before the Sabbath.

then you do what they do, im not sure, not work, not use cars?
but as Christians is it really necessary anymore?
really it seems like it's our job to use some of our free timne helping the less fortunate in whatever way we can.

you really want to have a modern Christian Sabbath, i'd suggest donating some of your time to a charity you like.
i don't know for sure. what did Jesus do?
most of the time i think he rested and prayed on the Sabbath.
obviuosly there was the time they went into the fields because they were hungry.
it depends on every person i guess. one one hand, even God did take that day off, and originally He intended for us to do the same, but in the modern world, vacation and weekends are different than they were 5000 years ago. we have a lot more free time than early man.
i feel it's our job to celebrate that by helping people with less some of the time
